"IN THE NEWS "

1. Smalley Moves into New Role. John Smalley, an original Co-Founder and Principal of HVP, is moving into to a new role as Special Consultant with the Company. In his new capacity, Smalley will continue to work with HVP on select developmental, consulting and operational projects.

“From my perspective”, stated Smalley, “this is an excellent time to transition into less than full-time responsibilities with HVP and to pursue other healthcare and non-healthcare interests that I have. Under Chuck Owen’s leadership, HVP will remain a strong and vibrant organization that will continue to provide excellent service to its current and future Clients. I look forward to supporting HVP’s future endeavors when called upon to do so in my new role as a Special Consultant”.

2. New ASC’s: We are pleased to announce that the Glastonbury Surgery Center (GSC) has received all required approvals and is now open for business.  GSC is a Hand and Wrist / Orthopedic / Sports Medicine ASC and is a Joint Venture between Hartford Hospital and The Hand Center.

The Middlesex Center for Advanced Orthopedic Surgery (MCAOS) opened in July and recently received a full 3 year accreditation by AAAHC.  MCAOS is a Joint Venture between Middlesex Hospital and a number of Surgeons from 3 separate Orthopedic Surgery Groups in the community.  Bethany Bozzuto is the Administrator at MCAOS.

Take a look at brief descriptions of both the GSC and MCAOS Projects, and stay tuned for future pictures of both these beautiful new facilities!

3. Louise (Lou) DeChesser, HVP’s Director of Clinical Services and Administrator of West Hartford (CT) Surgery Center, has been named to the Editorial Board of Outpatient Surgery Magazine. Congratulations to Lou for receiving this prestigious recognition.

4. John Smalley, HVP Principal, has authored The “Co-Managed” Hospital-Owned (HOPD) ASC: An Alternative Partnership Model. This Article was published in the electronic versions of Becker’s ASC Review (April 12, 2010) and Becker’s Hospital Review (April 14, 2010). The Article was subsequently featured in the hard copy version of Becker’s ASC Review (June, 2010 issue). This is the second Article published by HVP (see the “Article Links” on this Website) dealing with the topic of the HOPD ASC.

5. Louise (Lou) DeChesser provided an item for the “Ideas That Work” feature in the June, 2010 issue of Outpatient Surgery Magazine. The entry dealt with “Slipper Socks for the Homeless” and describes the recycling of patient slipper socks that were previously disposed of by West Hartford Surgery Center.

6. John Smalley, HVP Principal and Co-Founder, was included as one of the “222 People to Know in the ASC Industry”. This Article appeared in the June 17, 2010 electronic version of Becker’s ASC Review.

7. As reflected above, HVP is nationally recognized for its special expertise in the HOPD ASC model.
